AND THE END

Life is what happens while you’re making plans. You can script it, plan it all you want, but life has its own rhythm—it takes you in, yet remains completely independent from you. Every moment is woven together with delicate precision, forming what we call time. And when we say “life,” what we really mean is the time that exists between birth and death. Nothing more.
Your life is made up of what you’ve taken, what you’ve given, and how much you have trusted. When the diagnosis came, I made a single decision: no matter the process, no matter the conditions, I would be by your side.
The strongest bond between us was trust—unwavering, unconditional trust. You trusted me. I was one of the few people who stayed by your side day and night at the hospital. Even as a doctor, fully understanding what was happening, you never spoke of death. You always said you were fighting, that you drew strength from those who loved you. And even in your most fragile moments, you thought of us. Are you hungry? Are you tired? Is everything okay?
Through this journey, you brought together so many people, forming a friendship so deep, so powerful, that its foundation was none other than you.
While you were in intensive care, we spent New Year’s Eve at home. We looked at your childhood photos, we drank your favorite drink, we played your songs. You were always so thoughtful, always putting others before yourself—even in your final hours, you waited until morning so that we could have one last peaceful night.
January 1, 2018.I saw you one last time. I kissed you. I said my goodbyes. I made my peace.
I am grateful for everything you brought into my life—your love, your trust, your warm and unwavering friendship.
Those who love each other never truly part. One day, in a place unknown to us, we will meet again. That’s why I do not say goodbye.
Rest now. Sleep in peace.
If you have ever lost someone you love, think of them now. Remember a beautiful moment you shared. And whisper to them that you are okay.
What memory of them brings you the most warmth today?
