As children, we often perceive anything that earns approval from significant figures (like parents or teachers) as our most valuable talent or skill. Without realizing it, we unconsciously place it at the top of our list of "things to do."

If that ability genuinely brings us joy, then there’s no issue. But distinguishing this is crucial. Sometimes, we pursue something not because it makes us happy, but because it satisfies someone else—without even realizing it. Or, when seeking approval, we may turn to a talent that once earned us praise. Over time, this can silently pull us away from what truly fulfills us.

Does becoming an engineer or a musician nourish my soul? If music feels right, I must also consider other questions. Can I sustain myself through my art? Am I resilient or quick to give up? Do I have the discipline required? Will what feeds my soul also put food on my table?

For good life choices, multiple questions often need positive answers. If engineering were the answer, we’d still need to explore a different set of questions.

Ultimately, when you answer your own questions honestly, the path that unfolds will lead you toward what is good and beautiful.

What question do you need to ask yourself today?
